About

MakerCalc is a free quote workspace and calculator set for 3D-printing hobbyists and sellers: multi-part quotes with material, machine, labor, extras and batch pricing, plus a filament library, printer profiles, saved quotes and four standalone calculators (filament cost, print time cost, print pricing, filament conversion).

Everything is computed locally in your browser — there is no account, no server doing the math, and the tools keep working offline once loaded. Your filament library, printer profiles and saved quotes are stored in your browser's local storage and can be backed up as JSON from the Quotes page. The site is free to use; it is supported by affiliate links and, eventually, unobtrusive ads (see Privacy).

Prices default to EUR because that's the author's market, but the workspace also quotes in USD and GBP — the math is currency-agnostic.

Everything on MakerCalc runs client-side on purpose. Your spool prices, printer profiles, client names and quotes never leave the device — there is no account to create and no server that sees your numbers. Because the whole site is a static PWA, every calculator keeps working offline once it has loaded, which matters in a workshop with flaky Wi-Fi. The trade-off is that your data lives in this browser's local storage: clearing site data wipes it, so use the JSON backup on the Quotes page before switching machines or browsers.

The calculators cover the quoting workflow end to end. The quote workspace prices multi-part, multi-material jobs with machine wear, electricity, labor, extras, failure rate and true margin, then exports a client-ready PDF. Around it sit standalone tools:filament cost, print time cost, spool remaining, rotation distance & e-steps, pressure advance, drying timer, shrinkage compensation, print speed & volumetric flow, AMS purge waste and resin cost. MakerCalc is free to use. It is funded by affiliate links to filament and printer retailers — if you buy through one, the price stays the same for you and the shop pays a small commission. That is the whole business model; there is no paywall and no data sale, because there is no data to sell.

Where the numbers come from

Every calculator here reduces to a short chain of arithmetic you can audit. Filament cost is weight multiplied by price per kilogram, print time cost is hours multiplied by a machine rate that bundles electricity, wear and depreciation, and resin cost scales a slicer's millilitre estimate against the bottle price and fill volume. Constants a slicer does not hand you — typical power draw of a desktop FDM machine, failure rate allowances, default margins — are conservative mid-range values for common printers, and each one is an editable field rather than a hidden assumption. If your measured draw or failure rate differs, change the input, not the result.

Where material data drives the output, the default follows physics. Grams per metre in the filament converter comes from filament diameter and density (about 3.0 g/m for 1.75 mm PLA at 1.24 g/cm³), so an exotic composite just means entering its real density. Drying times are starting points from manufacturer datasheets, not guarantees — saturated nylon or PVA can need more than one cycle before prints stop stringing.
